What's the Real Cost of Cheap Custom Challenge Coins?

Can you really find quality, cheap custom challenge coins? I believe that’s a more important question than people realize.

Both adjectives, quality and cheap are relative. What I find cost effective or affordable may be a lot of money to someone else, just as my view of quality may be more discriminating because I have been in the custom challenge coin industry for almost 11 years.

Having said that I also think there is a difference between receiving a good deal on creating your own custom coins and buying cheap custom challenge coins. I’m sure you’re automatically assuming that both of these are the same. Rest assured they are not and by the end of this post I will have you seeing things through a more enlightened perspective.

First let’s evaluate exactly what receiving a good deal on your coin entails. A good deal to me would be defined as receiving attentive and responsive service from my vendor and receiving a quality finished product that I am proud to share with the world.

Cheap custom coins imply to me that the price is low, affordable to most everyone, half ass service if any at all and a low quality finished product that I am embarrassed to show the world. My showing this poor quality product to the world would only emphasize how cheap I am to people who see my coin or are unlucky enough to receive one. I essentially wasted my money and should have splurged a little more where I skimped instead.

I believe we often look for cost effective solutions and accept less as a result. My example above may be extreme but I can assure you it’s a very real possibility. The reality is, there is no substitute for personal and attentive service from a business and there is absolutely no substitute for a quality product.

By only focusing on price you open yourself up to potential disaster and almost assuredly disappointment. Let’s run through a real life scenario to further emphasize my point. I had a potential client make coins with my competitor because of a $120 price difference. This prospective client labeled my business as more responsive but the allure of the cost savings was too much to resist.

Great, you want to save money. Here’s what you never saw coming, you don’t see where this client returned to me because what they actually bought with their $120 cost savings was an inferior finished product. Furthermore, they made it abundantly clear that better service holds absolutely no value, by acknowledging my company was more responsive, while opting to save money above all else.

This is a dangerous precedent to set for yourself as a consumer! What’s going to happen now that they are not satisfied with their finished custom coin? Are they even going to get a response from the “cheap custom challenge coin” supplier?

I am going to end this by encouraging all of you to really stop and think about what you’re willing to sacrifice in order to save money. There is a big difference between a company that offers specials on die fees or coin molds and a company that creates cheap, poor quality custom coins. Be sure you know the difference so your cheap custom coins don’t end up costing you twice as much!

Spartan Coins Offers Unprecedented Value in the Custom Coin Industry

Hey again everyone, Rob here for Spartan Coins. A lot of you may have thought about creating your own custom coins but have found a cost barrier. I know the set up costs can seem a bit daunting when compared to other promotional items such as tee shirts.

However in my own experience I have found custom tee shirts can be quite expensive as well. I think I bought like 7 custom tee shirts in 2014 for like $210 or something ridiculous.

Anyway, what if I told you I could make your entry level pricing concerns a thing of the past? Today that’s exactly what I’m here to tell you. The embedded video below explains the die fee promotion currently going on at

I will tell you right now, this cost savings promotion is essentially an experiment for 2017. If we can generate enough volume then this promotion could turn into the status quo. We shall see!

If you have ever thought about creating your own custom coins I encourage you to check out Spartan Coins – the best name in custom coins. Seriously, you don’t have anything to lose – except more money if you’re still making coins with someone else.

Is Lack of Knowledge Costing Your Business?

I am a really big fan of trying to educate my prospective customers. My efforts include videos, audio recordings, blog posts and articles, and of course keeping my frequently asked questions up to date. I am of the opinion that being an authority in your niche involves staying ahead of potential future frequently asked questions as well as updating previous questions. Therefore I have tried very hard to put together a great resource and that’s what makes what I’m about to say sting so much.

Is what your prospects don’t know or don’t care to learn costing your business? Probably! When you deal with the public you must understand that some people are resistant to learning new things! These type of people either don’t believe they have time, don’t feel it necessary to make the time or they just flat out don’t care to learn something new. They probably wonder why they should bother reading answers to your frequently asked questions when they can simply ask you. Come on now, don’t make me think and for God’s sake don’t make me read.

I know it sounds funny but I’m serious, and that’s probably why it’s so funny. Those of you laughing at this know exactly what I’m talking about.

The reason I’m highlighting this topic is because I believe a prospect’s lack of knowledge recently cost me business. I recently went through the normal motions of what I do to get a custom coin order which is create artwork and do requested artwork changes prior to any form of commitment from the prospect. Stupid business model, right?!

Anyway, we are right on the verge (at least I think we are) of getting this order when this prospect drops a bombshell on me. The prospect asks, is the dragon (see below) on the reverse side going to be 3D. My response is no! You see, there is not enough detail to make that specific design element into high relief 3D metal.

The amount of detail or lack thereof for that specific design element has nothing to do with me. Using this specific dragon was their choice, even though I tried to get them onto a more detailed dragon (see below) from the beginning with my initial design.

3D Dragon

Needless to say I have NOT heard back from them after I said their dragon would not be 3D. I don’t ever say things like this to discourage people. I always set out to be honest and forthright with my prospects and customers but in this case being honest didn’t seem to serve me very well. I believe this is something that every business owner experiences and can be summed up by another lesson learned. It’s just really difficult to pay bills with lessons learned.

Is US Challenge Coins a Real Authority

I viewed an alarming video online yesterday.  The video stated that US Challenge Coins LLC is having delivery issues.  I’m not just talking about running thirty days behind.  I’m talking about running six months behind.  The video and news article went on to say that the delivery problem has become such an issue that a First Class Petty Office in the United States Navy has reported his situation to the Jag office.  It’s the Navy’s legal department for you folks reading this.  That’s a pretty serious thing in my mind.  Not only has the Navy legal team been contacted but the story alleges that US Challenge Coins LLC is under and FBI investigation.

This sounds like the model company with which to do business.  You get such a discounted price that your order of coins never gets delivered.  Can you see the shortcoming or pitfalls of going with a company that perpetuates itself as a discount or cheap manufacturer?  US Challenge Coins refers to their self as the challenge coin authority.  I hate to be the one to break this news to you, but an authority in any niche would never let things get so bad that they fail to produce.  People are in business to make a profit.  Businesses must turn a profit to stay in business.  This is just the cold hard truth.  Businesses need pay for employees, employee benefits, their suppliers and shipping company.  This laundry list of items doesn’t come at a discount.  The cost of shipping is continually on the rise due to the ever increasing cost of fuel.

Don’t be taken in by gimmicks and discounts.  You need to get your coin manufactured with businesses that have had been through trials and tribulations and made it through.  I don’t claim to be an expert in the field of challenge coins but I damn sure know what I’m talking about.  I have been on the front line of a successful challenge coin company for almost seven years.  I have seen firsthand how the economy and government cut-backs hurt business.  Honestly I can’t help but feel a little sorry for US Challenge Coins but that doesn’t excuse their indiscretions.

Customers deserve better than this.  Consumers deserve to do business with a company that’s going to be there when they need them and deliver their product on time.  If you’re in the market for custom challenge coins or whatever adjective you use to describe them then visit
